By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka has assured the residents of Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, that light will soon be restored in some hours time.

Some parts of Okpuno village in Awka South Local Government Area of the State have been in darkness for two days now and still counting, which occasioned water scarcity in the area, among other consequences.

The affected areas include UNIZIK Junction (also known as UNIZIK Temp. Site), Ngozi Estate, Abakaliki Street (also known as Club Road), Y- Junction, Uche Ekwunife Crescent, among other major parts of the capital city.

When contacted by this reporter, the State’s Power and Water Resources Commissioner, Engr. Chukwuemeka said he had spoken with the officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), who told him the problem was from the feeder.

According to him, the feeders serving the affected areas have problem, but are currently being fixed.

“They said it is feeder problem. The feeders serving the are have problem. But they are currently working on it. Light will be restored in few hours. Surely, the light will be restored today, in a matter of hours,” the Commissioner said in a telephone interview with this reporter.
