The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old suspect, Mustapha Sani, in Awka and recovered an Infinix Android phone allegedly stolen in Adamawa State.
The arrest, according to a press statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was carried out on October 19 by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Awka, following intelligence-led efforts to track down the suspect.
Ikenga disclosed that preliminary information indicated that the suspect allegedly dispossessed unsuspecting victims of their mobile phones in Adamawa State before fleeing to Anambra, where the stolen devices were reportedly intended for sale or personal use.
The recovered Infinix phone is said to be currently under investigation as the police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and determine the suspect’s level of involvement.
The police spokesman further stated that investigations had commenced to unravel the details of the case and facilitate the return of the recovered device to its rightful owner.
Reacting, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime, recovering stolen property and ensuring that suspects are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner also assured residents of Anambra State and visitors that the Command would sustain intelligence-led operations and proactive policing to protect lives and property, improve public safety and maintain law and order across the state.
