Gov. Soludo Reacts, As Scavengers Prey to Sell Anambra’s Property in Enugu

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has warned that the state government had no intention to sell any of the property of the State domiciled in Enugu State.

Speaking through the Managing Director of the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Hon. Chike Anyaonu, the state government raised the alarm following the observation that the property are surreptitiously being preyed upon for sale by some individuals he described as “unscrupulous scavengers and grabbers.”

Reports have it that after the creation of states in August 1991, during which Old Anambra was split into New Anambra and Enugu States, the Federal Government, in 1992, undertook the sharing of assets between the two newly created states.

It was further that among the property inherited by Anambra State after the asset sharing, those located in Abuja and Lagos have not had any problems whatsoever, while those located in Enugu are surreptitiously being targeted for sale by some individuals.

Notably five in number, the property and their locations include (1) 30/32 Abakaliki Road, GRA, Enugu; (2) Plot 6 Ogbolu Crescent, GRA, Enugu; (3) Plot 14 Charles Street, GRA, Enugu; (4) Plot 3, Independence Layout, Enugu; and (5) Plot 650, Independence Layout, Enugu.

“The Anambra State Government led by Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has not directed any persons to act as agents to sell these properties,” Mr. Anyaonu said.

It was further revealed that the officers of the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation had since physically posted Caveat Emptor posters on the 5 property, and formally written to the Lands Registry in Enugu, as well as the Enugu and Anambra States Police Commands over the same property.

The state government consequently reiterated the warning that anybody purporting to buy any of the property from the impostors is doing a grave damage to himself, as Anambra had never nursed any intention to sell any of the property, let alone engaging or directing anybody to act as its agent to sell them.
