Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered two fabricated pistols, three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity and a motorcycle abandoned by two suspected cultists who fled into a bush during a police patrol operation in Awka North Local Government Area of the State.
The recovery was reportedly made on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) were conducting a routine patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge in Awka North.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the operatives, during the routine patrol, sighted two young men riding a black-coloured Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
The PPRO said the two riders reportedly became suspicious on sighting the police team and suddenly made a reckless turn with the motorcycle in an apparent attempt to evade the officers.
Their action, the Command said, prompted the operatives to give them a hot chase.
According to the Police Spokesman, during the pursuit, the suspects fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it, along with two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush.
He said a search of the abandoned bag subsequently led to the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
The Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered firearms and other items.
According to the statement, reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing aimed at disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding residents across the State.
The Commissioner also directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
