The Anambra State Police Command has distributed various empowerment and welfare items, including sewing machines, hair dryers, cash gifts and certificates of training, to spouses of Junior Police Officers in the state under a welfare initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The initiative, according to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was sponsored by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) as part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare and well-being of Junior Police Officers’ spouses and their families.
The Police spokesman said the programme was implemented in Anambra on Thursday in Awka, with beneficiaries receiving different items and goodwill support under the scheme.
According to the press statement issued by SP Ikenga, the initiative reflects the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to prioritising the welfare of Police personnel and their families, in recognition of the important role family support plays in boosting the morale, dedication and effectiveness of officers in the discharge of their duties.
The welfare programme, the statement further noted, specifically provided support for spouses of Junior Police Officers serving in the Anambra State Command, as part of the broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen its welfare structure for personnel and their dependants.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Ngozi Ezeabata, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the initiative.
DCP Ezeabata, according to the Police spokesman, described the intervention as laudable and said such welfare programmes would contribute significantly to improving the morale of officers and fostering a stronger sense of belonging among members of the Police family.
The Command also expressed gratitude to the IGP and the NPTF for their continued support, while assuring that it would continue to promote the welfare of its personnel alongside its commitment to professional, people-oriented and effective policing across Anambra State.
The items presented to beneficiaries, according to the press statement, included certificates of training, cash gifts, sewing machines, hair dryer machines and other goodwill packages.
