The Anambra State Police Command said it has arrested a suspected cultist and drug peddler in the state, recovering firearms and hard substances in the process.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Awka.

According to him, police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS), Enugwu-Ukwu, carried out the operation late on Thursday, August 28, along Nkpor–Umuoji Road, close to a building site in Idemili North Local Government Area.

He identified the suspect as one Ebuka Ubadigbo, male, aged 35, who was apprehended at the scene with incriminating items.

“During the operation, operatives recovered two pump-action guns with two live cartridges, as well as large quantities of substances suspected to be hard drugs,” the PPRO stated.

Ikenga further revealed that preliminary interrogation showed the suspect confessed to being involved in drug peddling. He added that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the firearms, identify accomplices, and establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities.

He assured that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Police Command also reiterated its commitment to sustaining the fight against crime, especially cultism, drug peddling, and the unlawful possession of firearms across the state.
