Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol and a live round of ammunition after two suspected motorcycle snatchers abandoned their bag and fled during a hot chase in Nnewi.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning, September 3, 2026, along Ukpor—Umudim Nnewi road during a routine patrol by operatives attached to the Nnewi Central Police Station.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the policemen, while on patrol, sighted two persons suspected to be motorcycle snatchers riding on a motorcycle and immediately went after them.
He said the suspects, apparently in an attempt to evade arrest, zoomed off while the police operatives gave them a hot chase. He added that the suspects abandoned a bag which fell from them during the chase and sped away.
According to hi, a subsequent search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of the fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition.
The police spokesman said efforts were already ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
He reassured residents of Anambra that the Command remained committed to preventing crime and confronting criminal activities across the state.
