The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of popular Awka-based master of ceremonies, comedian, DJ and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Aiza,” alongside another person in separate gun attacks in Awka, the State capital.
The Police said the attacks occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, when three unidentified gunmen, travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, reportedly attacked two persons at separate locations within the city.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command received distress information and immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas in an effort to track down the assailants.
The bodies of the victims were recovered at Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively, and taken to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The Police identified one of the victims as Isaac Nwosu, while the identity of the second victim was yet to be ascertained as of the time of the statement.
The PPRO added that the police operatives also recovered ₦7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes.
Reacting to the killings, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, condemned the attacks, describing them as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the State.
The Commissioner consequently directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation, while security operatives have intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas.
The Anambra State Police Command appealed to community leaders, residents, motorists, business owners and other members of the public who may have witnessed the incidents or possess credible information about the assailants, their movements or the vehicle used in the attacks to come forward.
It assured members of the public that information supplied to the Police would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Nwosu’s killing has meanwhile triggered shock and grief among netizens, residents of Awka and members of the local entertainment community, where he was widely known for his distinctive style and unconventional personality.
A familiar figure on the streets of Awka, Aiza was known variously as a comedian, master of ceremonies, DJ, media personality and local advertiser. He was also associated with radio programmes and was particularly popular for his colourful roadshows, during which he drove around the city in his Hilux truck fitted with loudspeakers to advertise products and make public announcements.
His career and public persona spanned several decades, dating back to the 1990s, and he became known for his flamboyant and theatrical approach to entertainment.
Netizens have continued to flood social media with tributes following news of his death, remembering him for his comic performances, mentorship of younger entertainers and contributions to the local entertainment scene.
The Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as the manhunt for the perpetrators continues.
The Command reiterated that community partnership remains essential to effective policing and appealed to anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to promptly contact the Police.
