An alleged notorious car thief has been apprehended in Anambra after reportedly stealing a vehicle parked in a bank by its owner.
The incident, which happened in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was corroborated by video currently trending on social media, showing the suspect as he was being interrogated by the operatives of the Nkpor Central Security.
Speaking during the interrogation, the suspect, Chimezie Eze, who hails from Umuobom in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, claimed to be a driver.
Recounting what happened, a friend of the rightful owner of the stolen vehicle, Chibuike, said his friend contacted him this morning to inform him that his vehicle was stolen at the Fidelity Bank where he parked it.
He said while he was rushing to the area, he saw a vehicle that looked like that of his friend plying along the Nkpor Junction, which made him to double-cross the vehicle.
He said the vehicle immediately diverted, while also chased after him with his own vehicle, raising an alarm.
According to him, the race and the chase continued till the stolen vehicle ran out of fuel and tripped off, which made the suspect to jump down immediately and flag down a commercial motorcyclist to whisk him away.
“However, the bike man refused to carry him. And while he was about to escape by food, I hit him down, and that was how we apprehended him,” Chibuike recounted.
The video also shows the recovered vehicle at the premises of the security operatives, who also commended Chibuike’s show concern and public-spirited action that led to the apprehension of the suspect; while also promising to hand him and the recovered vehicle over to the Police for further investigation and positive prosecution.
