The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Jeremiah Obi, over alleged serial theft of mobile phones from hotels in Awka, Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu communities in the state.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Sunday, October 25, 2026, by operatives attached to the Amanuke Police Division following investigations into multiple reported cases of mobile phone theft and the review of CCTV footage allegedly linking him to the incidents.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday, October 26, stating that the suspect was linked to several cases of mobile phone theft at hotels across the three communities.
According to the police spokesman, the CCTV footage formed part of the evidence reviewed during investigations into the reported incidents, which eventually led to the suspect’s arrest.
Ikenga further disclosed that during interrogation, Obi reportedly confessed to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities.
The Police has consequently commenced further investigations to recover the stolen phones, determine the full extent of the alleged offences and establish whether other individuals were involved in the incidents.
Reacting, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urging hotel operators, business owners and members of the public to strengthen their security arrangements and remain vigilant.
The police chief also advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station to enable security operatives to respond and investigate such incidents.
The Command assured residents that investigations would be pursued diligently, adding that further developments would be communicated as the case progresses.
