Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, October 2, 2026, officially flagged off its Anambra South Senatorial District campaign for its candidate, Prince Samben Nwosu, with an energetic road walk in Nnewi.

The road walk, which attracted party leaders, chairmen and ward executives from across the senatorial district, was held after the formal flag-off ceremony at Jideofor Hotel, Nnewi.

Among the party leaders present were the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Bar. Chinemelum Ubah; State Chairman, Prince Casmir Ajulu; State Secretary, Sir Sunny Umenne; and Vice Chairman and Anambra South Senatorial District Chairman, Prince Victor Uba, among others.

Addressing party members and supporters at the event, Ajulu expressed confidence in the ability of the PDP to secure victory for its candidates in the 2027 elections.

He said the party was not intimidated by the strength of other political parties, arguing that the PDP had what it would take to win the forthcoming elections.

The state chairman also pointed to the performance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 National Assembly elections in Anambra, arguing that the party did not win any National Assembly seat during the election.

He, however, acknowledged APGA’s victory in the subsequent Anambra South senatorial bye-election following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, but maintained that the PDP would defeat the ruling party in the 2027 election.

Also speaking, Bar. Chinemelum Ubah charged the seven Local Government Area chairmen and ward executives in Anambra South to return to their respective wards and take the party’s campaign message to the people.

He urged them to remain focused on the election and work towards delivering Nwosu as the PDP’s candidate for the senatorial district.

“Vote, defend your vote; we will do the rest, which is to monitor it to the last,” he said.

Prince Victor Uba, the PDP chairman for Anambra South Senatorial District, said the zone was prepared to support Nwosu’s ambition.

He described the candidate as credible and said his election would be beneficial to the people of Anambra South.

“Prince Samben Nwosu is a credible candidate. Anambra South will be blessed to have him as their Senator. We are strongly behind him and with our collective efforts, he will surely win the seat,” he said.

The party’s State Secretary, Sir Sunny Umenne, also expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge victorious in the 2027 elections.

For Nwosu, the massive support displayed during the road walk was an indication that the PDP remained a strong political force in Anambra.

The senatorial candidate thanked party leaders, members and supporters for their support, saying the movement needed people who were ready to rebuild and reposition the party.

“I am contesting with myself, not with a bag of rice or an envelope. Trust is more than money. When people vote for competence and quality, the issue of a candidate not delivering will be a thing of the past,” Nwosu said.

He also criticised what he described as the practice of voting candidates based on financial inducements, saying such choices could leave voters disappointed when elected representatives fail to deliver on their promises.

“People are now wise. Last time, they voted a candidate because of money, who disappointed them with zero programme, no action and has remained unknown to so many, including myself,” he said.

Nwosu further pledged to introduce what he described as a new style of representation if elected, promising to regularly consult with constituents and carry them along in decisions affecting the senatorial district.

“I went to the field and interacted with traders. This is how it is going to be if elected. I will consult my people, tell them what is on board, seek their opinion and synergise with what they want, if given the opportunity to be their Senator,” he promised.

The event ended with the official presentation of the PDP flag to Nwosu as the party’s senatorial candidate for Anambra South.
