The Anambra State Government has said it would give owners of vehicles abandoned along roads across the state a one-month ultimatum to remove them or risk having the vehicles impounded and scrapped.

The government has also announced the approval for the commencement of the selection and training of beneficiaries for the third batch of its flagship youth empowerment program, One Youth, Two Skills (1Youth 2Skills) entrepreneurship programme.

The decisions were among the major resolutions reached at the 17th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) for 2026, held on Monday, November 2, at the Light House, Awka.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, November 3, by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, the Council directed the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) to issue a one-month notice to owners of abandoned vehicles on roads across the state.

Mefor stated that at the expiration of the notice, all vehicles still abandoned along the roads would be impounded, removed and scrapped by the government.

The government explained that the measure was aimed at removing road hazards, easing traffic flow and improving the safety and appearance of roads across the state. It consequently advised owners of such vehicles to remove them without delay to avoid forfeiture.

In another major decision aimed at furthering the government’s Solution 2.0 Agenda, Mefor also confirmed the Council’s approval of the commencement of the selection, placement and training of the third batch of the One Youth, Two Skills entrepreneurship programme, one of the flagship youth empowerment initiatives of the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

He said the Ministry of Youth Development would announce details of the eligibility criteria and application procedures for prospective beneficiaries in due course.

It would be recalled that the first two batches of the programme had been completed, with over 13,000 Anambra youths reportedly trained, empowered and mentored across more than 60 skill areas.

According to the government, over 5,000 beneficiaries from the completed batches have become confirmed millionaires and are now training and empowering other young people under the programme’s pay-it-forward model.

The initiative, as explained by Commissioner Mefor, is aimed at creating a new generation of skilled, productive and self-reliant youths through entrepreneurship training and empowerment.

Meanwhile, the State Executive Council also approved the extension of the government’s urban regeneration programme to Upper Iweka, Onitsha, a major gateway into Anambra State.

The government said the proposed remodelling would fundamentally change the aesthetics, functionality and land use of the area, including its parks and other public spaces, in line with its vision of developing a liveable and prosperous homeland.

According to the statement, a detailed master plan and design for the Upper Iweka regeneration project would be unveiled soon.
