A fire outbreak has gutted a diesel storage facility at Ndieze Nwankwo, along Edibros Road, Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State, leaving one person injured and hospitalised, while several storage tanks were affected by the inferno.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, November 1, 2026, following a fire outbreak involving diesel storage tanks at the facility.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service disclosed that a distress call was received at approximately 5:45pm, prompting the immediate mobilisation of firefighters to the scene. This was also corroborated by videos from the scene currently trending on social media.

According to the statement, the firefighters battled the inferno and successfully contained it, preventing the fire from spreading further and causing more damage to the facility and surrounding areas.

However, some of the storage tanks were affected before the fire was eventually brought under control.

The Fire Service disclosed that one victim was affected by the incident and was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The identity of the victim and the extent of the injuries sustained were not disclosed in the statement.

On the possible cause of the outbreak, the Fire Service said the incident was suspected to be a case of arson, following allegations that an unidentified individual deliberately set the facility ablaze.

It, however, emphasised that the actual cause of the fire remained subject to investigation.

The firefighters reportedly concluded their operations and departed the scene at 8:58pm on the same Sunday after successfully containing the fire.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Fire Service has urged members of the public to exercise caution in their daily activities, particularly in the handling and storage of petroleum products, given the dangers associated with such highly combustible materials.

The Service also advised residents to report fire emergencies promptly to enable firefighters to respond in good time and minimise the loss of lives and property.
