Thursday, September 19, 2024 has been set aside as a day of mourning in honour of the victims of the recent bloodbath that occurred at Agu Isioye, Enugwu Ukwu, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, where many youths of the community were killed by yet-to-be-identified persons on Monday, September 9.
Mr. Nnatu Chinedu, the Secretary General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), announced this in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, on behalf of the Traditional Ruler of the Community and the President General.
According to him, “On that day, the entire community and ECDU Branches within and outside the country will come together to pray for the repose of those souls that were killed in that process.”
Continuing, the statement reads: “The Community will also pray and commiserate with all those who sustained injury in the process.
“Nkwo Market and shops in the locality are thereby ordered to remain closed from morning till the evening and symbolic flags may be used by individuals as a sign of mourning on the day under reference.
“May God grant Enugwu Ukwu Community, the strength to bear the loss and the grace not to retaliate but to endure.
“We take this opportunity to send condolences to the families of the victims.”
