The members of Anglican Church of Redemption Awka (ACORA) family on Saturday stormed Nnewi, Anambra State, in solidarity with one of its own, Prince Chinedu Mojekwu (popularly known as Prince Nedu or Edu Drums) as he buried his father, late Mr. Paul Ugochukwu Mojekwu.

Prince Nedu, who is the President of the ACORA Gospel Band (also known as Redemption Band), was joined by members of the church family as they paid their last respects to his late father and rallied round the Mojekwu family during the burial ceremonies.

The ACORA delegation was led by Rev. Canon Clement Izuegbu, who represented the Vicar of the church, Ven. Barr. Cosmas Okafor-Diugwu.

Also in the delegation were Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Ogbuefi, members of the Parochial Church Committee (PCC), members of the ACORA Band and several other members of the ACORA family, who travelled to Nnewi to identify with Prince Nedu and his family at the solemn occasion.

The presence of the ACORA family was particularly significant given Prince Nedu’s longstanding commitment to the church and his active role in its music ministry.

An outstanding drummer, Prince Nedu has remained a prominent and dedicated member of ACORA, where he has continued to deploy his musical talent in the service of God and the growth of the church, particularly through his leadership and activities with the Gospel Band.

The burial brought together family members, friends, church members and other sympathisers to honour the memory of the late Mojekwu, who died at the age of 77.

According to the funeral announcement posted on the church platforms, the burial ceremony was scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Mojekwu family compound, while the Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at Immanuel Anglican Church, Akamili, Umudim, Nnewi.

For the ACORA family, however, the visit was an expression of fellowship and a demonstration of the bond between the church and one of its committed members at a moment when family and friends matter most.

The church family also used the occasion to appreciate Prince Nedu for his commitment, sacrifice and remarkable contribution to ACORA over the years.

The members took turns to condole with him and recognize his dedication to the Gospel Band and church activities at large, while also praying to God to console him and the entire Mojekwu Family as they bid farewell to their beloved patriarch.

In a vote of thanks, Prince Nedu lauded the ACORA family for making out time to travel to Nnewi to identify with him and his family at such a difficult moment, describing their presence as a demonstration of genuine love, fellowship and family spirit.

He also thanked the ACORA family for the prayers, encouragement and support extended to him before, during and after the burial, noting that their presence had further comforted and strengthened him and his family.

Meanwhile, the solemnity of the occasion did not completely prevent the usual warmth, banter, and conviviality associated with the ACORA family, as friends and members also used the gathering to have a taste of Nnewi suya which further made their trip memorable, even as they also jokingly reminded Prince Nedu that it was perhaps time for him to give the ACORA family an additional member by doing “the needful.”

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that Prince Nedu has been a qualified and popular bachelor in the ACORA family, whose single status has continued to attract playful pressure from friends and church members, as he always responds to them with the assurance “I will shock you.” Perhaps, the time for the “shock” is nearer.
