What could be best described as an unfortunate situation has befallen a good Samaritan in Anambra, as his act of kindness and help to a needy got rewarded with an act of wickedness.
The victim, Emmanuel Oluebube Okonkwo, an indigene of Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, brought his ordeal and pains to the attention of the public in videos currently trending on social media, where he recounted his encounter with a single mother, identified as Miss Oluebeube Onwe, from Ngbo, Ebonyi State.
Okonkwo, a resident of Awka, in one of the videos, recounted how he met Miss Onwe in a critical condition as a pregnant and stranded young girl who had already concluded plans to abort her baby in her 3rd month of pregnancy, because she had nowhere to go and had no one to take care of her.
He also recounted how he, out of kindness, offered to house the lady in his apartment and pleaded with her not to abort the baby, further undertaking to care for her pregnancy and the baby till delivery.
However, he lamented how his act of kindness eventually turned out to become a source of regret for him.
It was gathered that barely one year and five months after Onwe successfully delivered her child and lived with Okonkwo, who had been taking good care of her and her baby in Awka where he accommodated them in his apartment; the unexpected happened.
Okonkwo recounted how he went out one day and returned later in the evening, only to discover that Onwe had emptied his room, stole his money and other belongings and fled the house with her child, to an unknown destination.
He said the incident, which has left him in shock and devastation since then, was further aggravated by the fact that the runaway single mother has refused to pick his calls since then.
While lamenting in the video, Okonkwo, who was left visibly dry and empty, passionately appealed for help from the government, security agencies and members of the public to assist in tracking down the runaway single mother and recovering all that she stole from him. Reaffirming that he never remembered treating Onwe or her child badly throughout the period they lived with him; he further urged whoever reaches out to her to help ask her why she decided to reward him with evil for all his acts of kindness and for everything he did for her.
