Police Detain Officer over Death of 3-Month-Old Baby in Anambra, Launch Full Investigation

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a Police officer allegedly linked to the tragic incident that reportedly led to the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

The Command disclosed that the officer accused in connection with the unfortunate incident has already been identified and taken into custody, while a comprehensive investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the matter.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police assured members of the public that the matter would be handled with transparency, professionalism and in accordance with the disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the statement, the officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation alongside other administrative procedures as part of efforts to establish the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served accordingly.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, while expressing sadness over the development, sympathized with the bereaved family and described the incident as deeply unfortunate.

The Police Commissioner also reassured Ndi Anambra that the Command would not shield any individual found culpable, regardless of status or rank, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to accountability and responsible policing.

He further appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid actions or reactions capable of escalating tension while investigations are ongoing.

The Command noted that further details concerning the outcome of the investigation would be made public as the process progresses.
