The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the President General of Ogidi Community, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, and one other person by yet-to-be-identified gunmen, describing the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
The attack is coming barely eight months after unidentified gunmen brvtally mvrdered the President General of Aguleri Community in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state, Barr. Ifeanyi Iloakasia.
Confirming the latest incident in a statement issued to newsmen on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the att@ck occurred in the evening of Friday, February 6, 2026, at the School Field, Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, preliminary information available to the Command suggests that the attack may be linked to the recent capture and killing of a notorious cultist within the Ogidi community, though investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
SP Ikenga stated that upon receiving the distress report, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, secured the area, and commenced a comprehensive investigation into the killings. The Command, he added, is currently working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify the assailants and track their movements.
The PPRO further assured that the Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and is intensifying efforts to ensure that those responsible for the heinous crime are arrested and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He also urged residents of Ogidi and the general public to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, while also cooperating with the police by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
