The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) community was thrown into another mourning over the weekend following the sudden death of a 200-level student who was electrocuted while ironing his clothes in an off-campus lodge.
The deceased student, popularly known by his nickname “Fedwin,” was a 200-level undergraduate in the Department of Education and resided in a private hostel outside the university campus.
According to available details, the incident occurred while the student was ironing his clothes inside his room in the presence of some of his roommates and friends. In the course of the activity, he reportedly slumped suddenly after being electrocuted.

Shortly after the incident, videos from the scene began circulating on social media, showing the victim lying motionless on the floor, as his lodge mates made frantic efforts to seek help and raise alarm.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said desperate attempts were made to revive him while calls were placed to colleagues and emergency responders for assistance, all to no avail.
It was further gathered that the victim was eventually rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but was sadly confirmed dead on arrival.

This was corroborated by additional images that later surfaced online showing the process of moving the lifeless body from the lodge to the hospital.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact technical cause of the electrocution remains unclear, while medical authorities are said to be awaiting an autopsy to determine the full circumstances surrounding his death.
The incident has plunged students of the university, particularly those within the Faculty of Education and the off-campus student community, into mourning, as tributes continue to pour in for the late undergraduate on different media platforms.
Meanwhile, as at the time of this publication, the University authorities and/or the police are yet to issue any public official statement on the incident.
