We Never Suspended Any Ongoing Project for Campaign — Anambra Works Commissioner

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, has refuted and dismissed as baseless and mischievous the widespread speculations that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo suspended or abandoned ongoing infrastructural projects across the state to focus attention and resources on his campaign ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

Recall that certain opposition figures and political critics had alleged that the governor halted some projects midway in a bid to channel state funds into electioneering and political logistics, thereby slowing down work in several sites and communities across the state.

However, reacting to the allegation when contacted by this reporter on Friday, Commissioner Okoma described the claim as unfounded and laughable, insisting that it exists only in the imagination of those who manufactured it.

He explained that the Soludo-led administration is a focused, visionary and responsible government that does not mix politics with governance. According to him, while the campaign season may have begun, government activities and service delivery have continued seamlessly, with contractors still on sites and engineers from the ministry conducting routine inspections across the state.

The Commissioner emphasized that not a single project under the present administration has been suspended, abandoned, or delayed on account of politics, adding that all projects are progressing steadily and on schedule. He noted that Governor Soludo’s development blueprint is long-term and people-driven, designed to outlive political seasons and to ensure sustainable transformation of the state’s infrastructure.

“Every project awarded under this administration is ongoing,” he maintained, describing the rumour as a desperate attempt by opposition elements to discredit the state government’s achievements. He noted that those spreading such propaganda are unsettled by the governor’s remarkable performance and the growing public acceptance of his policies.

Citing examples, Commissioner Okoma highlighted ongoing key projects across the state, including the Agulu–Nnewi Road dualization, the Ekwulobia–Igboukwu–Nnobi Road, the Iyiowa–Odekpe–Atani Road, as well as multiple township and rural link roads currently being executed simultaneously in the 21 local government areas.

He further disclosed that the Ministry of Works maintains strict supervision of all projects to ensure quality assurance and timely delivery, adding that Governor Soludo has sustained regular funding to contractors despite the huge cost of materials and inflation in the construction sector.

The Commissioner also reminded the public that the governor’s vision for Anambra goes beyond campaign cycles, stressing that Soludo’s commitment to building a livable, prosperous homeland remains unwavering. He said governance continues every single day under the governor’s watch, even as the political season unfolds.

While urging the people to disregard what he described as propaganda from those who thrive on misinformation, Engr. Okoma reassured Ndi Anambra that the Soludo administration will continue to deliver legacy projects that will stand the test of time and redefine the state’s infrastructural landscape.

He reaffirmed that governance has not, and will never, take the back seat in the state, emphasizing that Soludo’s passion for service delivery and visible transformation of Anambra is unmatched in the state’s recent history.

The Commissioner concluded by appreciating Ndi Anambra for their patience and understanding, assuring that every ongoing project will be completed and commissioned in due course. He restated the governor’s resolve to leave no community untouched and no project abandoned, despite the desperate political distractions of the season.
