The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on criminal elements in the state, with the latest operation leading to the arrest of six suspected cultists, including a 35-year-old woman, and the recovery of a firearm and illicit drugs.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command disclosed that the arrests were made on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., when operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugwu Ukwu, stormed a notorious black spot at 7th Mile, Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives raided the hideout, arresting six suspects: Olisaemeka Izuchukwu (21), Isioma Chisom (22), Chinonso Izuchukwu (20), Chinaza Isioma (24), Onyekwelu Miracle (19), and Mrs. Chinenye Eloka Okeke (35).
According to SP Ikenga, recovered during the operation were one fabricated Beretta pistol (without magazine) and quantities of illicit drugs, including the dangerous crystal methamphetamine popularly known as Mkpụrụmmiri.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, commended the operatives for their swift and decisive action, stressing that the Command remains unwavering in its resolve to sustain the fight against cultism, illicit drug trafficking, and other criminal activities threatening peace and security in the State.
He further urged members of the public to continue providing actionable intelligence to the police, assuring that the Command will act promptly on credible information to rid communities of criminal elements.
The suspects, according to the statement, will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
