Police, NAFDAC Unveil New Strategies to Curb Fake, Substandard Products in Anambra

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to collaborating with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and other relevant agencies in the fight against counterfeit, substandard, and unwholesome products in the State.

CP Orutugu made the pledge on Wednesday, August 13, while receiving the South-East Zonal Director of NAFDAC, Pharm. Shaba Mohammed, at the State Police Headquarters in Awka.

According to a statement issued to newsmen by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the visit, which aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration, provided a platform for both agencies to deliberate on new strategies to combat the distribution of harmful products, protect consumers, and enhance public safety in Anambra and across the South-East.

While welcoming the NAFDAC delegation, CP Orutugu highlighted the importance of synergy between law enforcement agencies in safeguarding public health. He noted that effective policing goes beyond crime prevention to include active cooperation with sister agencies in enforcing sector-specific regulations. He assured that the Command would continue to provide security support during NAFDAC’s enforcement operations in the State.

The South-East Zonal Director of NAFDAC, Pharm. Mohammed, in his remarks, commended the Police Command for its sustained cooperation and support. He reiterated NAFDAC’s dedication to ensuring that only safe and quality consumable products are available in the markets, noting that this goal could only be achieved through robust collaboration with security agencies.

The Director was accompanied by Pharm. Louis Madubuattah, NAFDAC State Coordinator for Anambra State, alongside other senior officials of the Agency.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel; the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Ngozi Ezeabata; and other senior officers of the Command.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the two agencies tied up the meeting with a renewed commitment to proactive enforcement, intelligence sharing, and joint operations aimed at eradicating counterfeit products from circulation and ensuring the health and safety of residents in the State.
