Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Charles Chinonso, and recovered a stolen vehicle traced to him in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, was executed by officers attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, during a coordinated intelligence-led operation at Umuazu Village, Nise.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect is also believed to be a member of a separatist group. The recovered vehicle had earlier been reported stolen in Imo State.
The breakthrough followed a formal complaint from the victim, who reported that the car was snatched at the World Bank Housing Area in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State. He said acting on credible technological intelligence, operatives traced the stolen vehicle to its exact location in Nise and moved swiftly to effect the arrest without incident.
Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured that the Command would work closely with the Imo State Police Command, in whose jurisdiction the robbery occurred, to ensure the suspect is processed and prosecuted in line with extant legal provisions. He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-driven policing and collaboration across state boundaries to clamp down on criminals and recover stolen property.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to ascertain possible links to other criminal activities within and beyond the state.
