What has been widely described as horrifying incident struck in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State on the evening of June 30, 2025, as yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed a gathering and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving at least ten people dead and several others injured.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Toochukwu Ikenga, the assailants, who arrived in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), attacked the unsuspecting group without any provocation, firing sporadically and causing panic and devastation within the community.
The victims of the brutal attack, he said, were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Sadly, however, ten of them were confirmed dead by medical personnel, and their bodies deposited in the morgue.
While noting that the Command strongly condemned the act, he described it as senseless and unacceptable, further assuring the public that every effort is being made to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
SP Ikenga, in the statement, further, noted that the police-led security team swiftly took over the crime scene and has since commenced intensive investigation, leveraging useful information gathered from the scene and eyewitnesses.
While urging residents to remain calm and vigilant, the Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in Anambra State. He also appealed to members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid in apprehending the culprits behind this heinous act, assuring that all credible information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
