Soludo’s Commissioner Refuses to Pick Call, As Flood Washes Away Newly-Constructed Road in Anambra

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

One of the roads recently constructed by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been repeatedly washed away by flood, following the recent downpour in the state.

The incident happened at Ochanja Market, Onitsha, the commercial city of the state, where the Governor recently constructed some roads ahead of his two years anniversary in office.

The particular road was said to have been constructed alongside others, while the Monday, March 25th rain reportedly washed it off, as the asphalts were seen floating and dancing on top of flood on Tuesday, March 26.

This was corroborated by a video currently trending on the social media, which shows the coated asphalts piled out, with its pieces scattered and water-logged on some parts of the road.

The video was accompanied by a masculine voice over and a post, expressing a concern over the poor and shoddy job the Soludo Administration is executing, despite paying billions of taxpayers’ money for the projects.

A post accompanying the video, partly read: “Wonders they say shall never happen, but unfortunately, it happened.

“Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s one week old Road washed away in a split second.

“The ‘Dubai-Taiwan’ Ochanja market road in Onitsha constructed with billions of Anambra taxpayers’ money has just been washed away by just one episode of 20 minutes rainfall on Monday, 25th of March, 2024

“The rainfall exposed the nature of poor quality jobs executed by the government.

“Just a few weeks ago, at the same Ochanja Market, a storey-building under construction by the same government collapsed, killing an unknown number of people.

“By the time the rainfall is fully established in June, more poorly executed construction by the Anambra State Government could be laid bare for the blind to see.”

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, after seeing the video, made several attempts to contact the State’s Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, for his clarification on the development, but calls to his phone rang out without response, while WhatsApp and text messages sent to him by this reporter were also not responded to by the Commissioner.
