Information reaching our Correspondent Desk has it that the suspected trigger-happy officer of the Agụnechemba security outfit, who allegedly shot dead a female road user in Nnewi, Anambra State, has been identified and arrested.
Recall that we had earlier reported how a woman, simply identified as Chiamaka Okeke, was allegedly gunned down along the Ibeto Junction Nnewi on Tuesday by a yet-to-be-identified officer the Operation Udo Ga-Achị (popularly known as Agụnechemba) who was firing gunshots sporadically in attempt to clear a traffic jam at the junction so that their security patrol vehicle could pass.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, sued for calm and further revealed that the Command was already in contact with the relevant security outfit to identify the suspect and ensure that justice is served.
The CP, through a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations of the State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the incident as regrettable, while also reaffirming that investigations are currently ongoing, assuring that further developments would be communicated.
Latest reports from sources around the area, however, revealed that the suspected trigger-happy officer has been identified as Chinedu Okonkwo.
The sources revealed that the 36-year-old suspect, who is currently under detention, said he hails from Ezza in Ebonyi State, and added that he recently joined the Agụnechemba.
However, when contacted by this reporter, the Police Spokesman, SP Ikenga, could not confirm reports, adding that there is no such information before him.
“There is no such report before me,” he simply replied.
