A throwback video of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, praising the administration of his predecessor, Peter Obi, has resurfaced online, sparking fresh interest in what the governor said about Obi’s record before their political positions later diverged.
The footage, which began circulating widely on social media over the week (following the ongoing argument over Obi’s administration’s financial records and performance), was recorded in 2021 when Soludo was the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the Anambra governorship election, as he spoke during a governorship debate with contestants from other parties.
In the video, Soludo spoke favourably of Obi’s tenure as an APGA governor, saying the former governor had “relatively” performed well and had implemented the party’s manifesto.
He also cited road construction as one of the notable areas of Obi’s administration, while making reference to economic indicators which he presented as evidence of changes recorded in the state.
Soludo was heard citing a significant fall in Anambra’s poverty rate from about 53% to 14.8% under Obi’s administration.
Soludo, a former CBN Governor, was also heard in the video describing Anambra as having the country’s lowest unemployment rate at about 13% under Obi.
The resurfacing of the footage has attracted considerable attention from netizens largely because Soludo’s public assessment of Obi has considerably changed, particularly in a time when the country is gearing up for the 2027 general election, which Obi is contesting as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who has been publicly endorsed by Governor Soludo.
