Panegyrics and commendations rented the air on Wednesday, January 14, as the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, commissioned newly renovated classroom blocks executed by the Idemili South Local Government administration under the leadership of the Council Mayor, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi (popularly known as (Iyom Ife-Abata).
The project, which involved the comprehensive renovation of four classroom blocks at St. Simon’s Central Primary School, Umuegbu, Ngo Nnobi, was officially unveiled in a colourful ceremony that attracted education stakeholders, community leaders, political office holders and residents from within and outside Idemili South Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, the Council Mayor, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi, restated her administration’s commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Idemili South.
She assured residents that her current achievements in office represent only “the tip of the iceberg,” pledging that more economic empowerment initiatives and people-oriented developmental projects would be rolled out across the local government area.

The Mayor further noted that the project aligns with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision for the state’s education sector; while also reassuring to continue following the Governor’s educational footprint and replicating his blueprint for general grassroots development.
According to her, education remains a key pillar of her administration, as investments in learning institutions are investments in the future of the people. Commending individuals who contributed in one way or the other to the success of the project; the Mayor further urged residents to continue supporting her administration, assuring them that no community would be left behind in the distribution of development projects.

On her own part, the ASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, who performed the symbolic commissioning and tape cutting, described the project as a clear demonstration of responsive leadership and effective collaboration between the state and local government.
She expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done, stressing that a safe, conducive and child-friendly learning environment is critical to achieving quality basic education in the state.

Dr. Nwadinobi also acknowledged the concerns raised about the lack of modern toilet facilities in the school, assuring that the Board has taken note of the issue and would address it promptly as part of its broader intervention programmes.

Earlier speaking, the Councillor representing Nnobi Ward 2, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, who attracted the project, explained that the intervention followed his inspection of schools in the ward, during which the poor state of the classrooms at St. Simon’s Central Primary School caught his attention. He said the renovation was necessitated by the urgent need to provide pupils and teachers with a safe and conducive learning environment.

Hon. Ilogbenu also paid glowing tribute to the Council Mayor for swiftly approving and facilitating the project, describing her as a grassroots-oriented leader whose passion for educational development is leaving visible footprints across Idemili South. He joined voice to laud Governor Soludo for his administration’s commitment to education and human capital development in Anambra State, further reassuring the support of his constituents and Ndi Idemili at large.
It was further revealed that efforts are underway to revive the moribund water supply facility in the school to ensure a steady supply of clean water for pupils, teachers and residents of the area.
The commissioning ceremony, which held amid encomium and musical performances, was graced by several dignitaries, including the Leader of the Idemili South Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Ernest Ezeunyim; the Deputy Leader, Hon. Valentine Mbadugha and other councillors.

The occasion was also witnessed by the President General of Nnobi Welfare Organization, Chief Sir Aloy Olubialu; the Archdeacon of St. Simon Anglican Church, Ven. Angus Umeh; the Education Secretary, Diocese on the Niger, Ven. Izu Ndubuisi; the Headmistress of St. Simon’s Central Primary School, Amb. Mrs. Flora Umeh; the Nnobi Ward 2 APGA Chairman, Hon. Ugochukwu Ejigbalu; the Divisional Police Officer, Nnobi Division, CSP Uchechukwu Asadu; members of the Women Initiative for Greater Anambra (WIGA); party stakeholders, clergy, union leaders, parents, among other well-wishers.

Aside music displays, prayers and goodwill messages; the official cutting of the ribbon by the ASUBEB Chair formed the highpoints of the event
