The Anambra State Police Command has joined counterparts across the country in marking the 2025 Customer Service Week, with a reassurance that the safety and security of Ndi Anambra remain its utmost priority.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the annual event that holds every first week of October, provides an opportunity for police and other service-oriented institutions to appreciate their clients and strengthen their service delivery.
The statement was accompanied by photos showing some officers in branded shirts packing refuse along the roadside and sharing gifts to road users, as part of activities to mark the annual event.
This year’s celebration, themed “Empathy in Service,” the PPRO said, also served as a platform for the Anambra Police Command to reaffirm its commitment to improving police–community relations and to encourage empathy and professionalism among its officers.
According to him, the Command participated actively in the week-long activities, which were observed simultaneously across all Area Commands, Divisions, and Tactical Units in the State.
Continuing, he said, as part of the celebration, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Area Commanders, and Heads of Tactical Units engaged their host communities through open-door interactions, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and security sensitization walks.
“As part of the celebration, Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, and Heads of Tactical Units were seen engaging their host communities through open-door interactions, stepping up alternative dispute resolution strategies in addressing some complaints in their stations, engaging is security awareness sensitization walks, gifting the public as well as engaging in sanitation service within their area to promote mutual trust and collaboration,” he stated.
In a goodwill message, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, minps, PhD, reaffirmed that the safety and security of residents remain the Command’s top priority, noting that policing goes beyond enforcement to service, empathy, and fairness.
He was quoted as saying that the Police are not only law enforcers but also public servants whose duty is to protect lives and property with empathy, fairness, and professionalism.
According to the statement, while appreciating Ndi Anambra for their consistent cooperation and partnership with the Police, CP Orutugu assured that the Command would not relent in its efforts to maintain public safety, prevent crime, and improve its operational efficiency across the state.
“The CP urged officers and men of the Command to use the Week to reflect on their security service delivery and to strengthen their relationship with members of the public. He also encouraged them to continue to uphold discipline, courtesy and accountability in all interactions with the public.
“Happy Customer Service Week Ndi Anambra, your cooperation is not taken for granted,” the statement concluded.
