According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Chibunna Nwafor, aged 26, also known as “Ọffọnwatadile,” was taken into custody on February 11, 2026 after he was reportedly apprehended at his hideout in Umueri Community as part of the Command’s ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.
SP Ikenga explained that the arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of the pregnant nurse, whose body was found mutilated in Ogbunike, a development that triggered panic within the community and beyond.
He also confirmed that the suspect has been handed over to a higher investigative formation of the Nigeria Police Force for discreet and comprehensive investigative proceedings.
According to the PPRO, reacting to the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, commended members of the community whose cooperation and timely information played a critical role in the successful apprehension of the suspect.

The Police Commissioner, as quoted in the statement, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensure that all individuals connected to the crime are identified, arrested, and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Recall that a pregnant nurse, Ngozi Ekebe, was brutally murdered on 24 July, 2025, at Umueri village in Ogbunike Community, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the victim, who originally hailed from Enugu Ezike, a community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State (but married to Sunday Ekebe from Ebonyi State), met her untimely death when she went to offer treatment at the home of her killer who contacted her and falsely claimed that his mother was sick and needed urgent medical attention.
She and her husband were living and working at Umudioka in Anambra State which shares a boundary with Ogbunike Community where this incident happened.
After killing her, the suspects dumped her mutilated body in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, where it was later discovered during investigation.
Following the incident, the next day, on July 25, 2025, the operatives Anambra State Police Command arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the gruesome murder of the pregnant nurse.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect one Chiemerie Obika Elobisi from the same village, but currently at large.
She also confessed that the suspect called her to clean the blood stains after the victim was murdered; and further revealed how they sell human body parts to different evil native doctors in the area.
Acting on the information provided, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided a shrine belonging to a known native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, from Itima Amawa Village, Ogbunike, in the early hours of 29 July. And during search, they discovered and recovered butchered human body parts concealed inside different bags.

Since then, the Command had continued to search for the fleeing native doctor and the other prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi. However, the police investigations and sustained manhunt have yielded positive results, given the eventual arrest of the native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna (Ọffọnwatadile), while Elobisi appears to still be on the run, as investigations and manhunt continue.
