The Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a vehicle suspected to have been stolen, three years after it went missing.
According to a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Education Officer of the Command, RC Margaret Onabe, the vehicle was recovered at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) Desk Office in Nteje, following a routine verification of vehicle information submitted by an agent of the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR).
The statement said upon verification, it was discovered that the vehicle, which details were not disclosed, had been flagged as missing for years. Contact was immediately established with the rightful owner, who, according to the FRSC, confirmed that she had not seen the vehicle for the past three years. She also provided the original documents to authenticate her claim of ownership.
The FRSC Spokesperson said the development prompted the immediate involvement of the Anambra State Police Command, who took up the case for further investigation and necessary action.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, while reacting to the breakthrough, commended the NVIS database for aiding the recovery. She emphasized that the incident highlights the critical role of the database in tracking and identifying vehicles, particularly in cases of theft.
CC Nnennaya was quoted as saying: “This recovery is a testament to the effectiveness of our NVIS database. We urge all vehicle owners to ensure that their number plates are uploaded into the NVIS portal for ease of tracking and identification. This will enable us to respond promptly to stolen vehicle reports and recover them quicky.
The Corps Commander also commended the synergy between the FRSC personnel and other security agencies, while also assuring the public of the Command’s sustained commitment to enhancing road safety, security, and crime detection in the state through technology-driven interventions and inter-agency collaboration.
