The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as Timaya, over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other unsuspecting victims in Awka, the state capital.

Eleh was arrested on Friday afternoon, October 9, following intelligence-led efforts by police operatives to track down suspected criminals linked to the robbery incidents.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday, said the operation also led to the recovery of a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be connected to the alleged criminal activities.

The PPRO said the arrest formed part of ongoing efforts to tackle motorcycle-enabled robberies and related criminal activities across Anambra State.

According to him, the suspect, who had previously been convicted, is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full extent of his alleged involvement and determine whether other accomplices participated in the reported robberies.

The police did not provide further details about the individual robbery incidents or the circumstances surrounding Eleh’s arrest.

In his reaction to the arrest, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that those found responsible for criminal activities would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The Command also urged POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.
