ASPPB Dissociates Self from Omalima Demolition in Onitsha, Cautions Public Against Fake Officials, Impostors

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ASPPB) has dissociated itself from the ongoing demolition exercise reportedly taking place at Omalima Layout, Onitsha, describing it as unauthorized and unrelated to the activities of the Board.

In a public notice signed by its Managing Director, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, and made available to journalists on Thursday, October 23, the Board clarified that it has received numerous inquiries and complaints from members of the public concerning the demolition activities allegedly being carried out in the area.

According to the statement, the ASPPB categorically stated that it is not responsible for any demolition in Omalima Layout, warning members of the public to be cautious of mischievous individuals or groups who might be using the Board’s name to legitimize their unlawful operations.

The Management described such actions as fraudulent and aimed at tarnishing the image of the agency, emphasizing that the Board remains committed to due process and the rule of law in all its enforcement and regulatory duties across the state.

Barrister Maduekwe, in the statement, also issued a stern warning to those impersonating officials of the ASPPB or conducting illegal demolitions under its guise, directing them to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.

He reaffirmed that the Board, under the supervision of the Anambra State Ministry of Lands, is guided strictly by the provisions of the State Physical Planning and Development Control Laws, and would never embark on any demolition without proper authorization, verification, and compliance procedures.

The ASPPB therefore urged the general public, especially residents of Onitsha and its environs, to always verify the authenticity of any demolition or enforcement activity purportedly carried out in the name of the Board by contacting its office directly for clarification.

The Board reassured the people of Anambra State of its commitment to promoting orderly urban development, safety, and environmental sustainability in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration for a livable and prosperous homeland.
