The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe of Umuezeiyi Village, Achina in Aguata Local Government Area, for allegedly abducting and defiling a 13-year-old girl and stealing N30,000 from her mother’s shop.

His arrest followed a detailed investigation and a coordinated effort between operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Gender Unit, Awka, and local community security personnel.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Tuesday.

According to him, the suspect was apprehended on November 11, 2025, after weeks of tracking linked to the incident that occurred on October 29.

SP Ikenga explained that the suspect allegedly stormed the victim’s mother’s shop armed with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe. He reportedly converted a red polo shirt into a face mask to conceal his identity before abducting the teenager and taking her into a nearby bush, where he forcefully violated her. He was also said to have stolen N30,000 from the shop before escaping.

The PPRO added that the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement upon interrogation, affirming his involvement in the crime. Exhibits recovered from him include the locally made gun, the axe, and the red polo shirt used during the attack.

He further stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, as part of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice and holding offenders fully accountable.

While assuring residents of continuous efforts to strengthen security across communities, the Police Command also commended the local security group in Achina for their cooperation, stressing that such synergy remains crucial in the fight against crime.
