Popular Nigerian Actor Drowns in Anambra River on His Way to Location

It was a tragic incident on Wednesday, as renowned Nigerian actor, Junior Pope Odonwodo, popularly known as Jnr Pope, drowned in Anambra river on his way to a movie location.

The incident happened at Anam River in Anambra West Local Government Area of the State, few hours after the actor shared a video of himself and other actors on a boat heading to the location.

Announcing the unfortunate news, filmmaker Sam Olatunji, revealed that the actor died alongside three others after their boat capsized, while their bodies have been recovered.

The tragic demise of the 39-year-old has continued to spark off chain of reactions and has shocked fans and fellow industry figures, with many expressing their condolences and disbelief on social media platforms.

“Four actors including Jnr Pope fell into Anam River on their way to location and their bodies have been recovered. What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Multiple sources confirm this sad development to us,” a social media user wrote.

Prior to his death, actor Odonwodo was known to show off his wife and children and he puts in effort to interpret his movie roles. Aside from being a movie star, Junior Pope was also involved in skit-making and he got the attention of his fans with his videos.
