Anambra Police Train Officers on Weapon Handling, Operational Readiness, Others

The Anambra State Police Command has strengthened the operational readiness of its personnel through a specialised arms drill and operational exercise aimed at improving officers’ weapon-handling skills, discipline and tactical coordination, among others.

The exercise, held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the Command’s Headquarters in Awka, was conducted under the supervision of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, psc, of the Zone 13, who oversees the Police Supervisory Zone comprising Anambra and Enugu States.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the exercise was designed to sharpen the competence of officers in weapon handling and arms drill, while reinforcing adherence to established tactical and safety procedures.

The participating personnel, according to the statement, underwent practical drills covering safe weapon handling, arms drill, discipline, coordination and strict compliance with prescribed operational procedures.

The exercise also emphasised precision, controlled response, professional conduct and adherence to safety standards in the deployment and use of police personnel and equipment.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended AIG Dantawaye for the initiative, describing continuous professional development as a critical component of operational effectiveness and responsible policing.

The CP urged the officers and men who participated in the exercise to translate the competencies acquired into improved performance in the field, while ensuring strict compliance with the law, Force policies and established Standard Operating Procedures.

He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining a disciplined, professionally competent and operationally prepared workforce capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges and protecting lives and property across Anambra State.
