Members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Anambra State Council, have commended the State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for what they described as a purposeful and reform-driven first term, while expressing optimism for greater strides in his second tenure.

The Union made its position known in a statement and congratulatory message addressed to the Governor following his recent inauguration for a second term in office.

In the statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of MHWUN, Comrade Johnbosco N. Ementa; and the Secretary, Comrade Ugwu M. Nnabugwu, the Union lauded the administration for prioritising workers’ welfare and strengthening the healthcare system across the state.

The group particularly highlighted the Governor’s lead in the implementation of the ₦75,000 minimum wage, describing it as a bold step towards improving the living standards of workers and reinforcing his administration’s labour-friendly stance.

MHWUN, which is the largest health sector union in Africa, further noted that the recruitment of healthcare personnel across Primary Health Care Centres and general hospitals in all the local government areas of the state has significantly boosted manpower and service delivery, the impact of which is very manifest today in the state.

According to the union, this effort, alongside sustained investment in infrastructure through the construction, renovation, equipping, and upgrading of health facilities, has enhanced access to quality and affordable healthcare, especially in rural and underserved communities.

The union also commended the full implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and the resolution of lingering salary-related concerns, including issues surrounding salary grade progression, such as skipping CONHESS 10. It added that the administration’s commitment to providing a conducive working environment has improved morale, productivity, and retention of skilled health professionals within the state’s health system.

Beyond the health sector, the MHWUN Anambra also acknowledged the impact of the Governor’s road infrastructure development linking various parts of the state to the capital, Awka, further noting that such connectivity has strengthened emergency response systems and improved access to medical services. It described the achievements as reflective of a broader vision to build a resilient and efficient public service structure in Anambra.

While congratulating the governor and his deputy, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim, the union expressed high confidence that the second term would consolidate the enormous existing gains through sustained policy innovation, increased investment in healthcare, and continued prioritisation of workers’ welfare.

The Comrade Ementa-led MHWUN Anambra also pledged its support and partnership with the government in advancing the health and well-being of residents across the state, while also re-emphasizing the place of continuous training of health workers and embracing of digital innovations that will modernize patient care and record management.
