The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a gunman identified as Oluchukwu Anyaoku following the emergence of a viral video in which he was seen issuing violent threats and vowing to destroy all police formations in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
According to a press statement issued on Wednesday, December 3, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Obosi Police Division swung into action immediately after intercepting the threatening video circulating online on December 2, 2025.
SP Ikenga disclosed that the suspect was swiftly traced, arrested, and taken into police custody for interrogation, following what he described as a credible security response to the disturbing video content.
The police spokesperson further revealed that during the arrest, a firearm and a cutlass were recovered from the suspect, strengthening the gravity of the allegations against him.
He added that preliminary observations by the operatives indicate that the suspect may require professional medical evaluation, noting that appropriate procedures are already being followed in line with operational guidelines.
“To this end, the case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for comprehensive investigation and detailed analysis of all information already obtained about the incident,” the PPRO stated.
Speaking further in an interview with this reporter, the Police Spokesman said further updates will be communicated to the public as investigation progresses, even as residents were also assured of the Command’s resolve to sustain peace, law, and public safety across the state.
The Command also reiterated its warning against making threats or engaging in activities capable of undermining public order, stressing that such actions will always be met with decisive legal consequences.
