By Izunna Okafor, Awka

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly terrorizing residents of Aguleri and its environs with armed robbery and kidnapping, among other crimes.

The suspects, all males between the ages of 22 and 40, were nabbed by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of September 24, 2025, following what the police described as credible intelligence.

Confirming this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, gave the suspects’ names as Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba.

He disclosed that the suspects were apprehended in Aguleri during a sting operation, during which operatives also recovered one pump-action gun and a black Toyota Camry car with registration number SMK 835 FC believed to have been used by the gang in their operations.

According to him, the arrests followed sustained intelligence-gathering and surveillance aimed at curbing the rising activities of criminal elements within the area. He noted that the suspects were currently undergoing interrogation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in Anambra State,” Ikenga said.

The PPRO further quoted the Police Commissioner as urging members of the public to continue to provide timely and actionable information to the Police to aid in the fight against crime and criminality.

He also assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.

While appreciating the cooperation of residents in providing intelligence, the Police Spokesman stressed that the Command would sustain its operations and community-policing model to dismantle criminal gangs across the state.
