The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a tricycle just few hours after it was stolen from a commercial operator at Isuaniocha Bridge in Awka South Local Local Government Area of the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, , confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the victim was also rescued by the police after the attack.
According to him, the Command received a distress call on Sunday, September 21, at about 2.20pm, reporting that armed men had attacked a tricycle operator and dispossessed him of his yellow tricycle with registration number NZM 92 YH. He stated that the police operatives quickly mobilized to the scene, rescued the victim and also took him to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment.
SP Ikenga further explained that operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad traced the suspected armed robbers to Awarasi Village, in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area, acting on technology-guided intelligence.
According to him, the suspects attempted to flee when they sighted the operatives but were given a hot chase and arrested by the police. The arrested suspects, according to SP Ikenga, are Kosisochukwu Nweke (aged 26 years); Emmanuel Eze (aged 24 years); and Osondu Ifeanyi (aged 20 years).
While noting that the stolen tricycle was also recovered during the operation, the Police Spokesman added that efforts are still ongoing “to uncover more leads related to their criminal activities, while the suspects shall be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigations.”
