All appears set for a heated contest in the forthcoming August 16 Onitsha North I Constituency State House of Assembly by-election, as the Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe continues to attract high-profile endorsements — the latest being from the prestigious Agbalanze Society of Onitsha.

At the colourful gathering held last night in Onitsha, members of the Agbalanze Society, one of the most respected and culturally significant associations in the ancient city, offered heartfelt blessings and prayers for Barr. Azikiwe. The endorsement, coming from such an influential socio-cultural body, is seen as a major boost to her political bid, given the society’s strong moral authority and deep connection to the grassroots.

Speaking during the event, leaders of the Agbalanze Society commended Barr. Azikiwe for her track record of service, her humility, and her unwavering commitment to the welfare of her people. They expressed confidence that, if elected, she would bring integrity, vibrancy, and a people-oriented approach to legislative duties.

The ceremony also served as a platform for reaffirming the society’s call for credible, issue-based campaigns and peaceful elections, urging politicians to prioritise the needs of the people over personal interests.

Barr. Azikiwe, in her response, thanked the Agbalanze Society for their show of trust and solidarity, describing it as both humbling and inspiring. She pledged to justify their confidence by pursuing legislation and constituency projects that will directly address the needs of Onitsha North I, while also preserving the cultural heritage of the area.

She was accompanied to the gathering by notable political figures, including the Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora; the Anambra North Zonal Vice Chairman of APGA, Chief Ojinnaka Uzoechina; and other party stakeholders, many of whom are also members of the Agbalanze Society. Their presence underscored APGA’s united front ahead of the by-election.

Political analysts in the area have described the endorsement as a strategic advantage for Barr. Azikiwe, noting that the Agbalanze Society’s influence could sway a significant number of votes in her favour, given its standing and reach within the community.
