As part of his move and effort to improve access to clean water and enhance the living conditions of rural dwellers, the Mayor of Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Chief Van George Ezeogidi, has flagged off the construction of a solar-powered borehole project in Ezinifite community.
Launched on Monday, the project, it was gathered, stands out as another step in the Ezeogidi administration’s ongoing drive to deliver sustainable infrastructure and promote inclusive development across the local government.
Designed to provide constant access to potable water through solar technology, the project, which aligns with Governor Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland, is expected to significantly ease the community’s water challenges while also supporting environmental sustainability and improving overall public health in the area.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Mayor Ezeogidi described the project as part of his administration’s broader vision to transform Nnewi South into a model local government in Anambra State through sustainable and inclusive development.
He commended Ndị Ezinifite for their steadfast support and cooperation with his administration, emphasizing that his government remains resolutely focused on serving the masses and empowering local communities.
He further called on the residents to take ownership of the project, ensure its success, and protect it against vandalism, noting that public infrastructure can only be sustained through collective responsibility and community vigilance.
Mayor Ezeogidi also expressed appreciation to the President-General of Ezinifite, Nze Sylvanus Udezuka, and other community stakeholders who graced the event, describing their support as invaluable in driving the developmental agenda of Nnewi South forward. He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to continue initiating people-centered projects that reflect the needs and aspirations of the grassroots.
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the Ezinifite solar-powered borehole project is part of a series of community-oriented interventions initiated by the Nnewi South Local Government under Mayor Ezeogidi’s leadership, which, through similar projects in other communities, has shown commitment to sustainable development.
The event drew the attendance of traditional and community leaders, youth groups, women associations, and other dignitaries from the local government area, all of whom applauded the initiative and pledged their support for its success.
