Iyom Amaka Obi to supervise construction of 1km Okenwa Crescent in Nnobi being done by Okenwa Nnobi

A philanthropist, and illustrious son of Nnobi community, High Chief Amb. Dr. Ikechukwu Edwin Azugo, has kick started the construction of Okenwa Crescent in Ngo community in Nnobi, Idemili South local government area of Anambra state.

Speaking during the flagoff, the Mayor of Idemili South LGA, Hon. Amaka Obi commended High Chief Edwin Azugo for his giant strides in taking up the road project singlehandedly. She said that Azugo’s vision to construct the road, which she said, had remained in bad state for decades, is commendable, and should be emulated by other sons and daughters of the community and beyond.

She said, “This is the kind of thing Governor Soludo wants illustrious sons of daughters of this state to do. While the governor is dualizing major roads, people like High Chief Azugo will be connecting internal roads. It is through this kind of vision that our communities and state will develop.”

While recounting how she attracted the road construction by encouraging people like High Chief Edwin Azugo to be part of developing their communities, Iyom Amaka Obi prayed for the benefactor, and expressed confidence that the road will be completed in no distant time.

In his own remarks, High Chief (Amb) Dr Edwin Azugo (Okenwa Nnobi), a Special Title Holder in the community, said that the road, measuring over 1km had remained impassable and delapidated for many decades, making it difficult for residents of the area to use the road.

He said it was the sorry state of the road and the plight of the road users that moved him to take up the project.

He said, “This road, Okenwa Crescent, has been very bad, and relatively impassable for many decades. Today, God put it in my heart to work on the road to wipe tears from the eyes of my people.”

He thanked leaders of the community for their encouragements and support, and promised that the road will be completed in few months.

Special Assistant to Governor Charles Soludo on Digital Security, Hon. Chigbo JohnChristopher, also commended High Chief Edwin Azugo for the giant stride.

He said that the philanthropist, High Chief Azugo, has already cued into the vision of Governor Soludo in the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP). According to him, the governor envisioned PPCP to drive development in Anambra communities without restrictions.

He said, “Infrastructural development in communities cannot be left for government alone. Various communities should also contribute their own quota in developing their areas. This is the kind of thing that can help the state in actualizing Governor Soludo’s envisioned Dubai-Taiwan state.”

Traditional ruler of Nnobi community, HRM Igwe Nick Obi, also expressed happiness over the development.

The monarch expressed gladness that his subject takes up the ‘homongous’ project singlehandedly, and urged other well-to-do indegens to emulate same and work towards developing their areas.

Also, a prominent stakeholder and Special title holder in the community, High Chief Okwudili Ugochukwu (Akajiugo Nnobi), said that Chief Azugo has set a standard that other sons and daughters of the town should strive to emulate.

The chairman of Ngo Nnobi Development Union, Hon. Ilogbenu Oluchukwu, described what High Chief Edwin Azugo has done as outstanding and commendable.

Hon. Ilogbenu, who is also the Councillor representing Nnobi Ward II at the Idemili South legislative assembly, said that residents of the area have suffered for a long time because of bad network road. He expressed happiness that the people of Ngo and Umuikechem in particular, will now make a sigh of relief.

Another community leader, Chief (Sir) Aloysius Olubialu (Nwachinemelu), who also spoke at the event, noted that the entire people of Umuikechem are happy and grateful because of Chief Edwin Azugo’s benevolence in constructing the Okenwa crescent, so that residents of the area could enjoy good road network.

Also Speaking, High Chief (Barr) Emeka Okafor, (Ide Nnobi), said that what High Chief Edwin Azugo is doing should be commended and appreciated, so that others can emulate same, and develop their own areas.
