Heavy Gunshots in Isuọfia as INEC Declares APGA’s Soludo Winner of 2025 Anambra Guber Election (Video)

There was wild jubilation across Anambra State, particularly at Isuọfia, the hometown of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in Aguata Local Government Area, on Sunday, following his re-election as Governor of Anambra State in the just-concluded November 8, 2025, governorship election.

This came moments after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the fiercely contested election, as residents, aides, and supporters of the governor took to the streets, chanting solidarity songs, dancing, and celebrating in grand style.

Videos from a scene at the Governor’s hometown and residence in Isuọfia showed scenes of jubilation by his camp, with security operatives firing celebratory gunshots into the air amid the excitement that trailed the landslide victory.

Earlier announcing the official result at the INEC Collation Centre in Awka, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie (SAN), declared that Soludo, “having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, is hereby returned elected as the Governor of Anambra State.”

According to Prof. Omoregie, Soludo polled a total of 422,664 votes out of 598,229 accredited voters, while his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 99,445 votes. Other notable contenders included Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 37,753 votes, George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) with 10,576 votes, and John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 8,208 votes.

He further disclosed that Anambra has 2,788,864 registered voters, with 595,298 total votes cast, 584,054 valid votes, and 11,244 rejected votes.

While confirming that voting was disrupted in a few polling units affecting 10,481 voters, the Returning Officer clarified that the margin of lead between Soludo and his closest rival far exceeded the total number of affected voters, thus ruling out any potential impact on the final outcome.

Prof. Omoregie added that the APGA candidate met the constitutional threshold, having secured at least 25 percent of votes in more than two-thirds of the 21 local government areas of the state.

Reacting to the result, the National Chairman of APGA, Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa, described Soludo’s victory as a “well-deserved and historic mandate,” noting that Ndi Anambra had once again reaffirmed their trust and confidence in the governor’s leadership.

“This victory is a resounding vote of confidence in the leadership of Governor Soludo. Ndi Anambra have shown that performance speaks louder than propaganda. They have rewarded excellence, vision, and genuine service,” Ezeokenwa said.

He, however, admitted that the party had hoped to win all 21 LGAs as in previous elections but added that the result was a humbling reminder to work even harder.

“We are grateful but not complacent. This victory is not an end but a renewed call to greater service. The next four years will redefine governance and development in Anambra State,” he concluded.

Governor Soludo’s re-election, with over 70 percent of total votes cast, cements APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics and reaffirms the governor’s popularity among the electorate. Political observers say the landslide victory reflects widespread appreciation for Soludo’s infrastructural renewal, economic reforms, and efforts to restore order and discipline in governance.

Meanwhile, the election, widely adjudged peaceful and credible, saw impressive coordination among security agencies and improved logistics by INEC, which many have described as a sign of growing maturity in Nigeria’s electoral process.
