Swift intervention by the Anambra State Fire Service over the weekend prevented a fire outbreak from completely razing a six-bedroom bungalow at Ezinato Street, Ifite Village, Awka, Anambra State.
According to the Fire Service’s Media and Publicity Unit, the distress call was received at exactly 4:46 p.m. on Saturday, prompting the immediate deployment of a crew of firefighters and firefighting equipment to the scene. It said upon arrival, the operatives battled and successfully contained the raging flames, preventing further destruction and possible spread to nearby buildings.
Preliminary findings revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge. While it was gathered that no lives were lost in the incident, reports have it that several properties in the building were affected before the fire was brought under control.
The firefighting crew left the scene at about 5:50 p.m. after ensuring that the situation had been fully contained.
The State Fire Service, in the statement, also reiterated its safety advisory to the public, urging residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures to reduce fire risks, including regularly inspecting electrical connections, switching off appliances and sockets when not in use, and avoiding overloading outlets.
“Fire kills, but we can prevent it,” the statement concluded.
