The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State has re-elected Mazi Chidi Orjika as its Local Government Chairman for a second term following a consensus congress held in Ukpor.
According to reports and video from the venue of the election, Mazị Orjika, who led a 27-man executive committee into the congress, was returned alongside Comrade Nonso Ofoegbu as Secretary and 25 other executive members, in an exercise described as credible and transparent.
Witnessed by INEC EO, Mr. Anthony Okpe, as observer; the Local Government Congress, which held under tight security, saw participation of delegates drawn across the 20 wards in Nnewi South, with five delegates elected per ward during the February 18 Ward Congress.
The consensus arrangement, it was gathered, was reached after consultations among stakeholders aimed at strengthening unity and positioning the party for greater electoral competitiveness in the area.
Declaring the outcome of the exercise, the Returning Officer, Mr. Ugochukwu Afoekelu, commended party members for their maturity and discipline throughout the process. He noted that the peaceful conduct of the congress reflected internal cohesion and adherence to the party’s constitution.
According to him, not only was the process smooth and credible, the delegates also conducted themselves responsibly.
Reacting shortly after being declared the winner, Mazị Orjika expressed gratitude to party leaders, ward executives and delegates for the renewed confidence reposed in him. He described his re-election as a collective mandate to consolidate the party’s structure and expand its grassroots appeal.
Mazị Orjika said he was humbled by the people’s show of trust, adding that his re-emergence was not just my victory, but the victory of unity and shared vision in Nnewi South APC.

He further assured his commitment to deepen mobilisation across the 20 wards, strengthen the party’s internal structures, and work tirelessly to reposition the APC for future electoral contests.
He assured members that his second term would focus on more strategic planning and improving on what had been achieved in his first term; even as he urges all stakeholders to close ranks and work together in the interest of the party.
In their separate remarks, some of the participants at the event, expressed optimism that the peaceful outcome of the congress may signal renewed efforts by the APC to rebuild and consolidate its base in Nnewi South, a local government considered strategically important in the state’s political landscape.
