The Anambra State Police Command has commenced activities marking the 2026 National Police Day with a statewide sanitation exercise and free medical outreach, as part of her moves to strengthen community relations and promote public health across the state.

According to a press statement issued on Monday, March 30, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the exercise took place simultaneously across the eight Area Commands and fifty-six Divisional Police Headquarters, with officers and men actively participating in environmental sanitation. The initiative, he noted, reflects the Command’s recognition of a clean and healthy environment as a critical component of public safety and community well-being.

The PPRO further disclosed that the Command also organised a free medical outreach during which both officers and members of the public benefited from basic health checks and consultations. He explained that the gesture highlights other parts played by the Nigeria Police Force beyond conventional security duties, extending into community support services that directly impact citizens’ welfare.

According to the statement, speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, noted that the activities form part of a broader lineup of programmes scheduled to commemorate National Police Day on April 7, 2026. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing, stressing that sustained engagement and collaboration with the public remain vital to effective policing and crime prevention.

The Command therefore urged residents of the state to continue supporting the police in their efforts to maintain peace, security, and a healthier society, emphasizing that collective responsibility remains key to building safer communities.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the 2026 National Police Day celebration, as earlier announced by the Nigeria Police Force, features a week-long series of activities beginning March 30.

According to the NPF, this year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” further highlights the Force’s resolve to deepen transparency and foster stronger bonds with citizens.

The schedule of activities for this year’s celebration as released by the Force are as follows:
