The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its security preparations ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, directing all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to step up intelligence-driven operations and carry out coordinated raids across identified flashpoints in the State.
According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the directive forms part of the Command’s strategic measures to prevent any emerging threats of political thuggery, cult-related violence, and the illegal possession of firearms. The operation is designed to ensure a peaceful and secure atmosphere before, during, and after the governorship election.
The statement further disclosed that credible intelligence has revealed plans by some individuals and political interests to recruit and arm youths for violent activities during the election period.
CP Orutugu was quoted as warning that the Police Command will not tolerate any act capable of disrupting public peace, intimidating voters, or undermining lawful electoral processes.
Reaffirming the neutrality of the Nigeria Police Force, the Commissioner emphasized that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, safeguarding the integrity of the electoral space, and enforcing the law without bias or political interference.
The PPRO urged residents to remain law-abiding and to promptly report suspicious movements or activities that could threaten the peace of the State.
