Police Debunk Viral Rumor of Military Helicopter Dropping Unidentified Items in Anambra Bush

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral security alert claiming that a military helicopter dropped unidentified items in a bush located between Nimo in Njikoka, and Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Areas of the state.

The clarification was contained in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the Command promptly investigated the report after it surfaced on social media.

According to the police spokesman, police operatives were immediately deployed to the alleged location to verify the claim and assess the security situation.

He said the security assessment found no suspicious objects or evidence to support the claim, adding that the area remained peaceful, with residents going about their normal activities without any security threat.

SP Ikenga further disclosed that although nothing incriminating was found, security personnel have continued routine surveillance around the area as part of measures to reassure residents and sustain public confidence.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged members of the public to disregard the circulating report, describing it as a false alarm capable of creating unnecessary fear and panic.

The Police Commissioner also cautioned against the spread of unverified security information on social media, noting that such misinformation could undermine ongoing security efforts and public confidence in the state’s security architecture.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and sustained collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to safeguard lives and property across Anambra State.

CP Orutugu also advised residents to always verify security-related information through official channels and to report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station or other security agencies for prompt action.
