The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Saturday joined Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and other security service chiefs in the state at a special church service held in Awka to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Day celebration.
It was gathered that the church service, which took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, formed part of activities lined up to honour officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the supreme sacrifice in the defence of Nigeria’s unity, sovereignty and internal security.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the event also attracted some top government functionaries and other senior security officials in the state.
The statement read:
“As part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Day celebration, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc minps Phd today 11th January 2026 joined His Excellency, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, alongside other security service commanders and top government functionaries at a special church service held at St Patrick Catholic Cathedral Awka, Anambra State.

“The church service, a key component of the Armed Forces Day commemoration, was organised to honour the sacrifices, patriotism, and gallantry of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces who have paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation’s unity and security.
“The CP noted the importance of inter-agency cooperation and community support in sustaining security operations in the state.”
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that Armed Forces Day is observed annually in Nigeria to honour members of the Armed Forces, especially those who lost their lives in active service, and to remind citizens of the sacrifices made to preserve national peace and security.
